Yale is one of the oldest names in locks and now shows up in two very different places: traditional mortise and cylinder hardware on older Toronto buildings, and the Assure range of keypad and connected locks on newer doors.
Most of the time a Yale lock that has stopped working properly does not need replacing. Cylinders wear, springs tire, and doors move with the seasons so the bolt starts catching on the strike. All three are cheaper to put right than to rip out. We’ll tell you on site which one you’re dealing with, and if the hardware genuinely is finished we’ll say so rather than repairing something twice.
If you have just moved in, rekeying is almost always the right call. It changes the pins inside the existing Yale cylinder so every old key stops working, and it keeps the hardware you already paid for.

Usually yes, as long as the new cylinder takes the same keyway. If it does, we key it to your current key so you are not carrying two. If it does not, the cheaper route is often to rekey everything to one new key instead.
Rarely. In most cases the cylinder, the latch or the strike is the part that has failed, and any of those can be changed on their own. Replacing the whole set only makes sense when the body itself is worn or the finish has gone.
